Holidays

Gypsy wagons in a groupPicture yourself relaxing under the dappled shade of an ancient tree, next to a pretty gypsy caravan, waiting for your meal to cook over the open fire (nothing tastes better!). While your children are playing happily, enjoying running free in the grass and the woods, or paddling in the stream. The smells of campfire cooking, fresh grass and unpolluted air, the sound of the birds singing, and running water as the stream trickles by... help combat climate change by stayibg in England for your holidays, and trying out a break which holds at its heart the essence of timeless simplicity.…

This is real relaxation, and nature at its best. Even lying in bed at night, listening rto the sound of the rain drumming on the canvas overhead is really soothing, and it can be blissfull listening to the dawn chorus as the sun comes up in the morning... really get away from it all, and forget the worries and stresses of life for a while.

We made the decision not to send our caravans out on the road; it is very difficult to organise and execute a safe and fun holiday on the open roads in this country in the 21st century, we did not want to offer anything less than fantastic, and we found it very difficult to create this experience for others to enjoy to its fullest.

Cooking the evening mealEven in days gone by the travellers using horse drawn wagons had many problems on the road, and the real relaxation didn’t begin until they had found a site for the night and settled in. We feel privileged to live in such a beautiful area of England, and by creating private Bow Top campsites on the land we can offer real relaxation in a traditional and time forgotten way (last year we spent most of the summer outside cooking over a fire and sleeping in an open bender under the stars - it was magical).

Compact and romanticEach campsite is stocked with cooking equipment and a gas stove, and pots and pans for cooking over the fire. In keeping with the romantic atmosphere there is no electric, but there is a rechargeable light in each wagon. The Bow Tops sleep 2-4 and we ask that you bring your own duvets and pillows, torches and food. (There are some really good delis, health food shops and butchers in the area). We also provide an open bender next to the caravan for extra shelter, or to sleep outdoors in warmer weather,if your family would like to build their own bender we can supply materials and instruction...it doesnt take long and its fun to do, you can experiment with different shapes and sizes even adding a storage space ir kids den.We can also add a bell tent to your campsite if you require it (similar to a tipi), and we have a beautiful 15ft tipi that sleeps 4 for different experience of sleeping under canvas.

For special occasions or parties of family and friends we can move a group of caravans together for one night or more, with a central fire for sitting around and cooking over, this is always a night to remember.

Please note...Due to planning difficulties with Dartmoor National Park we are limiting the hire of our gypsy caravans to August this year, and at this time we are not taking any more bookings as we are rennovating our house and the caravans and having a baby!.

There will be a notice posted on the website later in the year if any late bookings become available.

We would like to wish all of our customers past, present and future a really happy 2008.
